The Making of Future History Redd Pen Media x Axion Agency
Every month we try to create a passion project to keep our creative juices flowing. This project titled "Future History" is a look into an artist living in the future painting her role models in the studio. We always want to challenge ourselves with our passion projects. This one included the task of doing green screen elements which is something we don't do in most of our work.
As far as the storyline, we wanted to mesh the past with the future through the artist's tribute of her influences. Director Wrangel Lubin spent hours listening to speeches that would carry the story of this project. We ultimately decided on Martin Luther King Jr, Malala Yousafzai, and Nipsey Hussle. We wanted activists in different periods from different cultural upbringings to give perspective on being great.
Juan's sister Jaileen Nieves was tasked with the art direction for this one which we felt worked best since she's an artist at heart. For the VFX and green screen work, we called on Jeremy Brookover and he did an incredible job giving us the futuristic world we wanted. Juan Ortiz was tasked with Producing and DPing helping Wrangel achieve his frames and overall vision for Future History.
Wrangel's direction and gaffing with the grip assistance of James Jackson was a beautiful execution of a colorful dive into the artist's world, played by Fay Garcon.
For camera we used the Blackmagic Ursa Mini Pro G1 and paired it with the DZO Film Pictor Zoom lenses. The camera was powered by Core SWX batteries and our monitoring of choice was the Small HD 703 Bright. The lighting tools consisted of the Aputure 300X, Aputure Nova, Aputure 120D, Nanlite Pavotube 30c & 6c, Nanlite Forza 60B & 60, and for the green screen we utitlized Arri 650s.
