Community service and giving back is very important to us here at Redd Pen Media, and we’re so happy to share this post about our workshop with Homeworks Trenton.

Homeworks Trenton is a non-profit that operates a free, after-school residential program for marginalized high school girls that provides academic and identity-driven leadership enrichment to supplement public schools and develop community leaders.

The workshop's goal was to expose these teenagers to the basics of lighting and filmmaking. We wanted to make this experience fun with shared stories of what we've been through to get to where we are today in our careers.

Juan opened the workshop with encouraging words while sharing his background about being a Trenton native who fell in love with the art of filmmaking. We also invited an award-winning Director/Producer named Kyra Knox to this workshop to share words of inspiration and life experiences with the scholars. We wanted to leave the scholars with technical knowledge about filmmaking and inspiration from our stories.

The second half of the event was the actual lighting workshop presented by Wrangel Lubin. Wrangel is a Director that works closely with Redd Pen Media. We were overwhelmed with the support from Nanlite who were kind enough to sponsor all of the lighting fixtures for the workshop.

The scholars had fun learning about lighting techniques for their social media content. It was all smiles and selfies after the class and we couldn't have asked for a better group for this workshop. Thank you for having us Homeworks Trenton!
